Happiness tips for international dating

international dating

Recently, I just finished reading Helen Russell’s books The Year of Living Danishly and Leap Year which blew my mind! I also watched Helen Russell’s videos on YouTube – very inspiring. Therefore, I’ve decided to share some of those happiness tips that could improve international dating on this blog.?

  • Add more ‘hygge’ to your life.

This should be done no matter you are in a relationship or not.

If you are a single man looking for a relationship on an international dating site like SimplyDating.com, having more hygge makes your life happier, so you are more likely to find a happy relationship. But what is ‘hygge’?

Well, hygge refers to coziness of the soul – relaxation, indulgence, comfort, presence and togetherness. It’s all about appreciating simple pleasures in your life and it doesn’t really cost much.

Here are some examples:

  1. Read a fascinating book while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate and several fragrant candles which make your home feel romantic and calm.
  2. Taking a walk in nature without listening to a podcast. ?
  3. Spending quality time with family and friends without looking at your phone.

If you are in a relationship with a woman, you can also introduce hygge to your life:

  1. You may slowly cook together in the kitchen and then mindfully eat your dinner for a romantic date night.
  2. Hug each other and watch an interesting movie on the couch.
  3. Slow dance in the living room with relaxing background music such as Norah Jones’s songs.
  • Find the right work/life balance.

In Denmark, most people only work 33 hours per week. Yes, you read that right. Most individuals shut down their computers in the office before 4pm and go home happily. They prioritize their family life and personal freedom rather than their work.Because Danish people pay high taxes, most of them only do work that they actually enjoy. A lot of Danish people claim that they would continue working even if they aren’t paid. What’s more, Danish people trust their government – they believe that the Danish government spends money wisely.

Statistics show that more than 79% of Danish people trust everyone they meet. Therefore, it’s very common for moms to leave their babies outside coffeehouses and buy coffee in Denmark. This is unheard of in English-speaking countries.

Speaking of work/life balance, research shows that working harder and working more hours never make anyone happier. If a person’s annual income is above $75,000 a year, more money doesn’t bring more happiness. No wonder Danish people are the happiest in the world, according to an international report. So, if you’d like to make your international dating life better and more enjoyable, you may need to find the right work/life balance for yourself. Let’s say you currently work 50 hours a week – can you try working 45 hours a week? And then 40 hours a week? 35 hours a week? If it’s possible, you may run this experiment gradually.

Interestingly, American entrepreneur Kate Northrup accidentally discovered that working more hours doesn’t bring her more results: When she was pregnant with her first daughter, she was too tired to work a lot. After her first daughter was born, motherhood was very challenging in the first year, so she didn’t work much then. What surprised her is her business revenue didn’t decrease during that period of time. That means working more hours doesn’t give her any benefit.

Thus, if you do the experiment that I mentioned previously, chances are you will realize that working more hours doesn’t make anything better. What needs to be done is to focus on high-leverage activities at work that actually bring big results. As to low-leverage activities, you need to consider eliminating them, streamlining them or delegating them.

  • Be a lifelong learner.

In Denmark, almost everyone is an avid learner no matter how old they are. It’s very common for adults to study something in an adult learning institute. A study shows that people who keep learning are literally re-wiring their brains in a positive way, so they become happier naturally. My recommendation is to combine learning something new with having fun because these two elements play a key role in your wellbeing in general. Many psychologists argue that when you are learning something new, your brain keeps absorbing new information and becomes healthier. Also, when you prioritize play time, you are much less likely to suffer from anxiety because human beings are biologically programmed to play and be childlike.?

“International dating experts point out that those who are in relationships would be well-advised to learn things together and enjoy life together. Both activities will make relationships stronger and more satisfying.”
