Healthy Habits: Why Russian Ladies Are So Elegant and Radiant

Last week I interviewed a Russian lady Anastasia who has kindly shared her beauty secrets with me. You may want to know why Anastasia still looks so young – she has been working as a model for almost two decades. Well, here is a list of her secrets that have helped her maintain her energy, health, elegance and radiance.

Instead of going to the gym, Russian ladyAnastasia dances to the music every day.

In her book Goddesses Never Age, Dr. Christiane Northrup writes, “Goddesses move joyously.” Indeed, instead of bringing a sense of obligation to going to the gym, Anastasia simply dances to the music on a daily basis, and she finds it extremely helpful because this powerful movement in tune with who she really is makes her slim, energetic and happy. Over the years, she has learned tango, salsa, and many more.

The importance of high-quality sleep: Anastasia usually goes to bed at 7pm and gets up at 3am.

I know this habit of hers sounds a bit crazy because it seems that she doesn’t have a social life at night. Frankly, Anastasia doesn’t stick to this routine every single day because occasionally, she needs to attend some functions and parties after 7pm. But she triesher best to stick to this routine whenever she can. Benefits brought by this routine include: 1) She has enough time to sleep well every night, which is the most important factor when it comes to why her skin looks so youthful – she doesn’t need an alarm clock at all and just wakes up whenever she wants. 2) Because she oftentimes gets up at 3am, she has at least 5 or 6 hours to do her morning routine: dancing to the music, eating a very healthy breakfast and reading a good book. 3) Sometimes her work is very busy (she occasionally has to prepare her clothes and makeup due to the nature of her job – she is a model), so she can have 5 or 6 hours to focus on her work before the rest of the world wakes up – no distraction at all!

Healthy habits: Anastasia prioritizes her skin-care routine and doesn’t waste her energy on things that don’t matter to her.

This Russian woman always uses the best skin-care products on the market because she knows what’s important to her and what’s not. Maintaining good skin is one of her top values (as a model, her profession requires her skin to look great as well), so it’s perfectly okay to buy the best eye cream and the best lotion. However, she doesn’t buy designer shoes and bags because those aren’t important to her and shouldn’t be her priorities in life. Money coach RamitSethi famously said, “I encourage you to spend extravagantly on the things you love, as long as you cut costs mercilessly on the things you don’t.” And we agree with him 100%.

Last year, Anastasia received a discount coupon which allowed her to buy designer clothes with a discount. After looking at the prices, she still decided to give it up because buying designer clothes isn’t really that important to her.

“When I was young, I never had beautiful clothes to wear as a child,” says Anastasia, “As a consequence, I spent a lot of money on good clothes in my 20s. But after I turned 30 years of age, I realized that clothing shouldn’t be a priority in life as this kind of things doesn’t add real value to my life.”

Indeed, when I observe an individual’s values, I often look at what they didn’t have in childhood. For example, life coach Michael Johnson (AKA the Mojo Master) didn’t have good shoes to wear when he was young, so he was bullied by his classmates at school. Now Michael Johnson always wears designer shoes and even travels with his designer shoes – that is getting what he desired when he was young.

Similarly, this woman from Russia Anastasia never had nice clothes to wear when she was young, so she had a period of time in her 20s when she was spending a large amount of money on clothes. Yet she figured out that clothes shouldn’t be a priority in her life.

“I only have a few expensive items in my closet,” says Anastasia, “I only wear them when I have an important meeting with a new client, because when the new client sees that I wear high-end clothes, it’s easier for me to ask for a higher price – the client can see I have expensive clothes, so it means I already have high-quality clients who pay me top dollars.”

I admire this Russian lady’s intelligence.

“But when it comes to skin-care products, I am happy to spend more money on them,” says Anastasia, “I think maintaining youthful skin is much more important because the skin is the biggest organ of my body & it’s my responsibility to look after myself.”

According to Dr. Christiane Northrup, there is a difference between chronological age and biological age. Your chronological age is the age on your passport, whereas your biological age is the real age of your physical body.

Some young people have older biological age because they drink too much alcohol and smoke a lot, whilst some senior citizens have younger biological age because they know how to look after themselves physically, mentally and emotionally. Clearly, Anastasia is a switched-on Russian ladywho knows how to take care of herself very well.

How can a man use some of these strategies to look after himself?

If you are a man reading this article, you may want to utilize some of these strategies to take care of your health and wellbeing as well. (Note that Russian ladieshighly value health and wellbeing, so they expect their men to understand this as well.)

First of all, you have to prioritize sleep. We all know that sleep, diet and exercise are the three pillars of physical health. But in reality, sleep is the most important element in the dynamics, according to health and nutrition expert Shawn Stevenson. And multi-millionaire Tom Bilyeu agrees with him 100% – Tom Bilyeu has never used an alarm clock for more than 10 years because he goes to bed before 9pm every night. Similarly, thought leader Kate Northrup also goes to bed before 9pm every night and she has a healthy body and a thriving business.

Further, you need to do some physical exercise every day. You may go to the gym if you like. If you don’t like going to the gym, you can go running in the ocean (just go to the beach every day). This process is called “earthing” or “grounding” which means you let your bare feet touch the ground without wearing shoes – in this way, you receive the nature’s energy, which is good for your health. Some Russian women do that regularly by walking on the ground barefoot at times.
